Vrijdag 6 december 2013 is de loting geweest voor de poulefase van het WK 2014. Nederland speelt in poule B tegen wereldkampioen Spanje, Chili en Australië. Op zich geen ongunstige loting. Mocht Nederland 2e eindigen in de poule, dan bestaat de kans dat Oranje het in de volgende ronde moet opnemen tegen gastland Brazilië. Brazilie speelt in een lastige poule tegen Kroatië, Mexico en Kameroen. De "poule des doods lijkt poule D te zijn met Costa Rica, Uruguay, Italië en Engeland.
